It feels like just yesterday that the idea of working from home was something that would only happen “in the future,” well…it seems the time has come, as a lot of companies have embraced the remote working culture.
According to a survey of more than 15,000 adults in 2017, 43 percent of employed Americans said they spent at least some time working remotely.1
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that more and more Americans are planning on utilizing a flex room as a home office. A flex room is a space inside some of our Prefabulous® homes that allow you to customize the area to work for you! So, home office, here you come!
Some of you may just be planning as you look through your Clayton Favorites, or others might already have a home but are trying to figure out how to create a home office. Nevertheless, we’re going to discuss some home office ideas, options and necessities for an efficient, pleasant work space within your home!
Set Yourself Up for Success
This is a major key for those of you that are searching for the home of your dreams. Your work style will typically determine the details of your home office space, starting with the location.
If you prefer a private space to work, consider a home office that will offer peace and quiet. If you don’t get easily distracted, you might want a space out and about in the middle of your open floor plan.
If your options for the location of your home office are limited, don’t worry. There are lots of opportunities for you to be creative and find a way to make your work space work!
There are some that would argue that this is the most important feature of an office space, at home or at the office. A good seat can go a long way whenever you’re spending hours and hours in it, so invest in a quality office chair that will also go with the style of your home office.
Get Out of the Cube Life
Most of us who work at home are typically doing the same exact work we’d be doing at the office, except we’re doing that work in our sweats (#winning). But that doesn’t mean that your home office space has to be identical to the one at the office. You’re going to be spending a lot of time here, so you should be comfortable in it. Whether that means adding cute décor, painting the walls a certain color or even positioning your desk to look out a window, take the opportunity to break out of the cubicle life and embrace the home office!
Having a home office can be helpful in any lifestyle. Whether you work from home full time or part time, have a booming side hustle or just like to have a quiet place to write, dream, work and plan, a home office will get the job done.
If you’re still searching for your dream home with a built-in office space and an open floor plan, stop by your local Clayton home center. There you’ll be able to take a tour through fully furnished models and talk to our friendly home consultants about the smart features available in our homes!
