The holidays can feel like magical time where even the smallest thing, like twinkling lights, can bring a smile to your face. So, what better way to celebrate a season of joy than by passing these smiles along to those who truly need them. At Clayton, we believe in leaving the world better than we found it which is why we encourage our team members and customers to find opportunities to give back to their community, like participating in #GivingTuesday.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. The day is represented and known via its hashtag #GivingTuesday because the movement is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. By using the hashtag, people all over the world can see how each other give back to their communities and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
Getting involved might be easier than you think, especially when you’re surrounded with those just like you in a Global Day of Giving. Here are a few ways you can get involved on #GivingTuesday.
1. Attend Local Events
An easy way to help in your community is to support your neighbors by going to local events. People with local businesses rely on the people in their community to help their businesses thrive.
Attending events such as farmers markets, flea markets and craft fairs is a great source for fresh produce and original products that you can’t get anywhere else! Plus, it is an even better way to build relationships with others in your community, too. Check out your local chamber of commerce’s website for a list of local businesses and a schedule of upcoming events.
Getting active by giving your time, whether it’s attending a local event or supporting a neighbor, can leave a huge impact on an individual and even an entire community. See how Clayton team members joined together in changing a life for a neighbor and team member during a time of great need.
2. Volunteer in Your Spare Time
We all know that life can be hectic, but dedicating a small portion of your free time to helping those around you can be very beneficial to your community and leave a lasting impact on those you help. There are always plenty of opportunities to volunteer. To start, get in touch with nonprofit organization in your area to see if they have any need for volunteers.

3. Organize Your Own Event
Attending local events and volunteering are a couple of great ways to give back but it can also be just as fun organizing your own event! If you see a need in your community, think of an act or event that could benefit that need.
Start out simple with an event like a company fun run to raise money for new white boards at a local elementary school or start a canned food drive to help supply your local food bank. Just make sure you decide on an event that is easy and fun for people to get involved.
Remember, doing something good to build happiness in your community this season doesn’t always have to be a formal event. It’s the small things that can make a big difference. Help your neighbors by bringing them a holiday dish or making contributions to a local charity.
Take the opportunity this #GivingTuesday to see what you and your friends can do to help build a better tomorrow. Spending your time helping those in need is one of the best ways to give back, but don’t forget to take the time to build happiness for yourself. Clayton believes that taking the steps to achieve homeownership helps toward building a better life. After taking the time to give back on #GivingTuesday, take a moment for yourself and reflect on how can build happiness for you and your family, too.
