Organize Your Life: Battling Bathroom Clutter

There’s nothing more stressful than starting your day out trying to untangle your blow dryer cord from your flat iron cord, except maybe trying to locate the missing toothpaste cap, or accidentally using the three-year-old makeup that you meant to throw away. But you get the picture. Getting ready in a bathroom full of clutter and junk is NOT a good way to start your day. Your bathroom should be a sanctuary, not a stressor!

Here are a few ways to tackle that bathroom clutter once and for all:

Declutter & Discard

Just like organizing any other room, start by purging the bathrooms of things you don’t need. Things like old, expired makeup and beauty products, duplicates of styling tools and brushes, and almost empty shampoo bottles cluttering up your beautiful shower can all be tossed or used up and then discarded or donated.

Minimize Countertop Clutter

Try to keep all your daily essentials in drawers, cabinets or storage boxes. The less clutter that makes its home on your countertops, the cleaner and less stressful your bathroom will feel.

Store Excess and Extras in Another Location

It’s tempting to come home from the market after a big sale with 8-10 tubes of discount toothpaste or sticks of deodorant. Unfortunately, these things can quickly pile up in your bathroom. Now, I’m definitely not telling you not to buy in bulk. Who can resist a good buy one, get one free sale? Not this girl.

Instead, I’m suggesting that you store the excess and extras in your linen closet, laundry room storage or high shelves in the bathroom. This keeps them out of the way during your everyday routine, but still accessible when you remember your deodorant is empty when you’re already five minutes late to work.

Utilize Shelving and Built-In Features

If you’re among the lucky ones (or if you own a Prefabulous® Clayton Built® Home), you’ve got plenty of built-ins and shelves to store all the things that you use on a regular basis. These make great places to store things like towels, soap and beauty products, styling tools and more. Just be sure to keep them organized and clutter free to prevent them from becoming an eye sore.

Do a Daily Pickup Before Bed

A cleanup a day keeps the clutter away! Yes, that was pretty lame, but it’s the truth! By cleaning up your messes before you go to bed every night, even if it just means wiping down the counter while you brush your teeth or throwing your laundry in the hamper while you wait for the water in the shower to get hot, these quick little steps at the end of the day will give you peace of mind.
